Freemasonry is built on three simple principles: Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. It asks each member to treat others with kindness and tolerance, to support those around him — in the Lodge and beyond it — and to act with integrity in everything he does.
Members meet in private groups called lodges, using the customs and symbolism of the medieval stonemasons as a framework for personal growth. What unites them isn't background, profession or belief — it's a shared commitment to becoming better men, and better neighbours.
What Freemasonry Is Not
Not a religion
Freemasonry has no theology and does not seek to replace religion. It asks only that a member believes in a Supreme Being, and welcomes men of every faith.
Not a secret society
It is a private members' organisation, not a secret one. Its principles, activities and charitable giving are publicly documented, and members are free to say they belong.
Not for personal gain
Using membership to seek unfair advantage in business or personal life runs directly against Masonic principle, and is a matter members take seriously.
Not political
Freemasonry takes no political stance. Discussion of politics or religion has no place at a Lodge meeting.
